Dating culture and practices are always important because dating is a socio-cultural phenomenon relevant to several critical sociological fields, such as intimate relationships, marriage, and demographic reproduction (Barraket and Henry-Waring 2008). Studying how dating apps affect Chinese young adults' dating practices and attitudes toward monogamous relationships is, in fact, the study of the establishment and maintenance of affinity mediated by digital matchmaking.

Pew Research Center conducted this study to understand Americans’ attitudes toward and personal experiences with dating and relationships. These findings are based on a survey conducted Oct. 16-28, 2019, among 4,860 U.S. adults. Most Americans say it’s harder for men to know how to behave on dates in the era of the #MeToo movement. A majority of the overall public (65%) says the increased focus on sexual harassment and assault in the last few years has made it harder for men to know how to interact with someone they’re on a date with. About a quarter (24%) say it hasn’t made much difference, and 9% say it has become easier for men to know how to behave.

On dating sites, people create profiles for themselves. The personal information in these profiles is quite extensive. This chapter presents an overview of the different types of information people share on these sites and how to find those people.
